Hi and welcome to Map and Family. In these current unprecedented times we won’t be promoting any travel reports or guides. For now let’s #StayHomeSaveLives. Sending our very best wishes to our readers.
Map and Family aims to take the guesswork out of travelling with your children. Families who’ve been there already share their stories to help you to travel in style. This is the place to be inspired by real family adventures.
I’m Nancy Roberts, I live in London with my two teenage boys and I’m a former women’s magazine editor. Over the years I’ve come to realise that the very best advice about travelling with children comes from friends who’ve been there first. They’re the ones at the school gate who don’t just show you selfies on sunny beaches – they tip you off about the new place to eat, the hip little family hotel and the jellyfish which didn’t get a mention in the brochure.
This is how Map and Family was born. Our trusted contributors are serious about travel – whether it’s a trip of a lifetime or a last minute weekend escape. They’ve been travelling with their children for years and now they’ve agreed to share their findings with us. Some will stay anonymous, others will pass round their holiday snaps – but they have all spent countless hours researching their trips.
Every journey featured here has been one family’s voyage of discovery: they’re going to tell you about the Best Bits obviously – but they’ll be candid about What Went Wrong too. We hope their insights and experiences will help you to plan your own best trip ever.
Each week we’ll be bringing you new destinations, reviews and family travel ideas. We hope we’ll inspire you to follow in our footsteps and share your stories too – so that together we can chart the world for families everywhere.
A huge thank you to Map and Family’s trusted contributors who have kindly agreed to be interviewed for this site and have given up their time to share their travel experiences. Contributors – you know who you are! Your enthusiasm, your wonderful photos and your stories from every corner of the world are an absolute inspiration.
About our photos. The images on this site come from many sources. Please always check the photo credits before you consider using them as some may not be free – or available. Photos that belong to our contributors may not be used or linked to by any other person or site without written permission. Thank you.
A word about accommodation/travel credits: Since one person’s hotel from heaven can be another family’s hell we will only give details of hotels/accommodation if the contributors that stayed there are confident they’d recommend it to their friends. If for whatever reason the accommodation is not considered up to scratch it won’t be featured in the story – simple as that. Equally, if the family only stayed at a location for a short time and feel they don’t have enough sense of the place to review it then they won’t. Because of this some reports may not include accommodation listings.
For the same reason please always do your own research before you book a holiday. The content on this site is for general information and entertainment only and is gathered from many sources. Map and Family cannot warrant that it will be up to date or free from inaccuracies.
Disclosures. If a trip or stay that is featured on this site has been subsidised in any way by a tour operator, accommodation provider or airline we will always let you know within the feature.
Similarly items which have been sent to Map and Family for review will be marked as such. We won’t review any products or services that fall short of our expectations or are not a good fit for our readership.
Affiliate links. In some cases when you click a link to the webpage of a product or service and then go on to make a purchase the company concerned will pay a small percentage to Map and Family. This is not charged to you and is what helps to keep the site afloat. Thanks very much for your support!
